OUR PROGRAM
People with ASD can perform athletics at a high level when specialized approaches are used that leverage strengths and are intrinsically motivating – like kayaking and skiing! Extreme Sports Camp utilizes the latest techniques in autism and has developed many cutting edged approaches of its own. We offer advanced, rigorous and age-appropriate physical activities which truly challenge our participants, providing a rewarding and successful experience. Learning a sport is best accomplished through sustained and repeated immersion, coupled with the expectation that each camper can reach his or her next level. We concentrate our activities into core sports to enable proficiency. Our core summer program consists of: (a) climbing on indoor walls, challenge ropes course, and outdoor climbs on cliffs with repelling, rock hopping and tyrolean lines; (b) water sports including skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, and boat surfing; and (c) whitewater kayaking and rafting. Fun but athletic diversions include hiking, mountain biking, and swimming pools with giant water slides. We practice breathing exercises, stretching, and body awareness movements. Typical schedules from last summer are available for download below. Our winter program focuses on snow skiing and boarding, with après-ski activities like swimming and hot tub. Our overnight facility is in Old Snowmass. Download the file below for more details.
