Tubby Smith Basketball Camp FAQ

Q: Will there be additional camp sites other then The University of Minnesota?
A:  Yes, there will be a day camp held at Eden Prairie High School, July 22-25, 2008.

Q: I sent in my application and payment but have not heard anything from you. What's my status?
A:  All campers will receive a confirmation letter shortly after registering for camp.  This letter will contain all the necessary information you will need for camp from registration information, times, dates, what to bring, facility information, dismissal, etc.

Q: How does registration work?
A:  Registration times will be noted in the confirmation letter that you receive shortly after you enroll in camp.  Please refer to your confirmation letter for exact times. Please do not arrive any earlier for doors will not be open. You will be asked to present your confirmation letter that was sent to you, the Medical Release and Consent Form, a key and meal card deposit check (for overnight camp only), funds to be deposited into your child’s “bank account,” and any medication your child will need throughout camp.  Further instructions will be given to you at registration.

Q: Where will my child stay and eat for the Overnight Camp?
A:  Campers enrolled in the Overnight Camps or Father/Son camp will stay on the campus of the University of Minnesota in Territorial Hall with 24 hour supervision from camp counselors. Territorial Hall accommodates two campers per room. You may request for your child to stay with a friend and/or teammate, however this can not be guaranteed.

Q:  Are meals provided?
A:  Yes, overnight campers will receive 3 meals a day, day campers will receive lunch each day.  Your confirmation letter will outline when meals will be provided for each camp

NOTE: There will be a camp store and a “bank account” where parents can write checks or leave cash for prepaid snacks, cold drinks and sporting goods throughout the week. The camp bank will available at registration and throughout the duration of the camp.  All remaining balances will be returned on the last day of camp.

Q:  How should my camper dress?
A:  Please arrive at camp each day with proper court attire and basketball shoes WITH LACES.  Locker Room facilities will not be provided at camp.  Williams Arena is NOT air-conditioned and gets very warm in the summer time.  Please dress appropriately.  Eden Prairie High School is an air-conditioned facility.  Territorial Hall (where campers will be lodging) is an air-conditioned facility.

Q: What is your camper to coach ratio?
A:  We strive to meet a ratio of 8:1, but this can fluctuate with each camp as enrollment varies for each camp.

Q: Where will my child be placed in camp? Can they be with their friends?
A:  Campers are grouped by age and ability level.  While groups are pre-determined, some campers may be moved to different teams if they are more advanced.  Unfortunately, due to the number of anticipated campers, we cannot guarantee campers will be grouped with their friends.  We will attempt to honor roommate requests for overnight camps, but this can not be guaranteed either.

Q: Can girls attend camp?
A:  Tubby Smith Basketball Camps are structured for boys only from the ages of 8-17. Father / Son camp is for fathers and sons of all ages.

Q: What are the hours of camp?
A:  Day Camp  – Mon: 9am-5pm, Tues: 9am-5pm, Wed: 9am-5pm, Thurs: 9am-noon
Overnight Camp  – Sun at 3pm overnight through Thursday at noon
Eden Prairie Day Camp – Tues: 9am-5pm, Wed: 9am-5pm, Thurs: 9am-5pm, Fri: 9am-noon

Q: How many campers are in each camp? Do they fill up? Is there a waiting list?
A:  While the exact number is not available right up until camp, campers range from 100-250 depending upon the number of available courts and staff. Some camps do have a capacity limit and camps that have reached capacity and are closed will be posted on our website immediately. We do not keep waiting lists for camps at capacity.

Q: How is camp structured? Can I watch camp activities?
A:  Parents are more than welcome to attend camp and watch their child participate. Overnight and Day Camp is structured with instruction and drills in the morning hours with league and team competition in the afternoon. A daily schedule will be posted in the lobby so you will be able to locate your child during the day if you would like to see them participate.

Q: My camper is leaving early one day of camp. What do I do?
A:  Send a written note with your child to registration regarding their early departure. Please indicate the time they need to be picked up, names of who will be picking them up, and when/if they will be returning to camp. We will not allow campers to leave the facility without us directly seeing them get into your vehicle or walking out with the indicated person. Refunds will not be issued for missed days.

Q: Is parking provided?
A:  Parking is free of charge at all sites except the University of Minnesota. Parking is available across from Williams Arena in the University Avenue Parking Complex that has hourly rates or the Huron Blvd. Complex directly in front Mariucci Arena with set daily rates.  Please allow for time to park the first day of camp, as traffic is busy (especially on the U of M Campus). Parking will NOT be available on the Williams Arena Apron this summer. Having an additional adult in the car may be in your best interest.  You are responsible for any charges incurred for parking violations (tag and/or tow).

Q: My child has a medical condition. Can they attend?
A:  As long as your physician has examined your child and feels it is appropriate, your child is free attend.   Please have your doctor provide a written note clearing them for intense physical activity.  However, Tubby Smith Basketball Camps does reserve the right to refuse some campers with pre-existing medical conditions if we feel their health is at risk.
